Are you sure you have the appropriate hardware out there? What card is it? Has it been configured properly, used before? Is this in a virtual machine or in LPAR ?
The 0x7 smells to me like a 'data exception' which could mean the driver is getting some status back from the device that is seriously different from what it normally gets.
