The patch fixed my problems too. Incidentally, turning off dnotify in samba also got rid of "x.x.x.x sent an invalid ICMP error to a broadcast" messages I was getting (when icmp_ignore_bogus_error_responses is false), where x.x.x.x was a (buggy?) router.
Was previously using the same version (2.2.1a release 5) with rh 7.2 for s390.
