how does the echo command have to look like? Something like:

  echo ??? >> /proc/chandev

Is ??? the whole qeth_options.... command like below?

This is apparently a 2.4 kernel with the channel device
layer active (the only option for 2.4 OCO drivers).
Your parameters should go into the /etc/chandev.conf
or echoed into /proc/chandev and not in the insmod
command.
