I am on a fact-finding mission for the powers that be. We are in discussions with IBM
concerning the possibility of migrating one of our mainframe clients to Linux (under
VM). I appreciate any input to the following questions. Thanks in advance.

1. Has anyone taken on this type project (VSE-to-Linux, DB2, batch, CICS, etc.)?
If so, did you use IBM or some other means for support and knowledge transfer?
2. What database do you suggest to replace our current DB2/VSE system? Is Oracle
an option or is there a version of DB2 that will run with Linux?
3. What are our options for tape backups (DYNAM/VM, etc.)? Is tape processing
(batch) a thing of the past when using the Linux OS?

I'm very hopeful that we can do this because it could open the door for more expansion
in this area/environment. Otherwise we won't have a need for the mainframe and we'll
just push our clients to separate UNIX boxes or NT (in some instances).
