For now, yes, you still need 33xx emulation. You should install FICON adapters (which can be converted to FibreChannel later) in the z800, and when the FC support is formally released, you'll be able to go after them directly by updating the microcode. Note that for a while yet, you'll have to preserve a few 33xx'es for VM to use as we don't have a date for when all the S/390 operating systems will support booting and running off FC FBA disks.
IBM was demonstrating FC support at LinuxWorld in NYC in January, but didn't have a release date. -- db David Boyes Sine Nomine Associates > -----Original Message----- > From: Linux on 390 Port [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of > Dave Myers > Sent: Friday, May 17, 2002 4:21 PM > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Subject: Can z800 attach to Sun SAN 9960 for S/390 Linux? > > > Does anyone know.... > > What are my connectivity options to the Sun StorEdge 9960 box from the > S/390 Linux platform running on a z800 ?? > > (Sun StorEdge (rebadged Hitachi 9960) with 76 75gb drives) > > I noticed from their web page that it does support S/390 and ESCON > Do I still have to use 3390 and ecson/ficon ?? > > Or is there FBA and SCSI available now? > > Anyone know z800 futures in this area?? > > Thanks, > Dave >
