My company is doing an s390 linux pilot next month.
hardware: 9672-R56 running z/VM

I'd like to see the machine configured for running one
or several mysql/apache/php stacks, with as many php
bells and whistles as we can find and successfully
install. I'd really like something on which the
redhat s390 rpms install cleanly and easily.
The project has basically zero budget. Once we have
some demonstrated successes, though, I expect money to
be available for external support etc. For the time
being we are looking for freely downloadable distros,
which we will have to install and configure without
paid support. Some of the people involved have
extensive Linux experience, some have extensive s390
experience, nobody has both.

1. What is the best distro to use for this purpose? I
realize there may be several different good answers to
this question, I'm just looking for opinions here.

2. Where are the best places to get information about
common gotchas during the install?

3. Is anyone running a MySQL/Apache/PHP stack
successfully? Are there any php modules that you were
unable to install?

Thanks,

 Bruce T.
