Kevin,

If I were you, I would run, not walk, away from any software developer that
says things like this. They have pretty clearly never written any Linux
software that runs on, say PowerPC or Alpha or Sparc or you name it. They
have perhaps never written any Linux software at all. Unless there is some
dramatic need for in-line assembler code in their C programs, there is no
reason they can't write code that will recompile and run on any Linux
architecture.

Bottom line, no, Linux/390 does not emulate an Intel instruction set, any
more than the other versions of Linux do.

Subject: Intel Architecture Emulated with Linux/390?

Greetings Everyone,

As I am investigating vendor support for Linux/390, I have run into a
question I cannot answer. Vendors want to know if Linux/390 emulates Intel
architecture. Apparently, when programming in C, they have to write the
application to the specific architecture and that it will not work on
non-Intel based systems. Is this an issue which can be resolved as part of
a recompile?

Cheers,
Kevin
