With the ongoing activity in the Linux/390 or Linux/Z (linz) arena I
have come across an interesting problem. It appears that many of the
"NEW" linz ISVs have decided to hit the big time when pricing their
software. These vendors are looking at using the proof-of-concept
numbers being presented by IBM as a basis for generating bills. One ISV
has a product they advertise for Linux on Intel for $640 per server but
on an IFL engine they are advertising a charge of $91,000 per engine.

That translates into the expectation to collapse 142 intel servers into
1 IFL, I guess if the Intel server were running at less than 1/2 of 1
percent they might fit but I doubt I will find that many.

I even had one vendor reference David Boyes's test of 40k servers on a
machine as justification of their pricing, boy are the hype meters going
off!
