Paul, Welcome to the list.
To help you, we're going to need a more detailed explanation of what "disappear completely" means. Do you mean that the VM guest is actually logged off? Does it just stop responding? If it is still logged on to VM, what do you see when you logon to the VM console for the guest? Do you have any VM performance monitors? What do they show? (If you don't have one, call Velocity Software today. You need them. :) ) Mark Post -----Original Message----- From: Paul Dieffenbach [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Monday, September 23, 2002 10:41 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Linux image disappears Greetings, Another newbie joining the list. I was able to hear a number of you speak at the recent Share and found that tremendously helpful. My shop is new both to VM and to Linux. We're running z/VM 4.3 and SuSE SLES 7 for S/390 (2.4.7 kernel, vanilla install off the CD with no other maintenance applied.) Our primary purpose is to create an environment for running WebSphere 4.0.4, although we are also experimenting with DB2 Connect and Tivoli's Policy Director. My question concerns a problem that occurs sporadically - the Linux guest will just unexpectedly disappear completely and must be re-ipled. In all cases I was the only one logged onto the system - sometimes actively working, sometimes not. We do have runlevel 5 enabled and I do make use of the GUI desktop via Hummingbird's Exceed product. Any suggestions on why this might be happening, what events might trigger it and where I could look for diagnostic information would be appreciated.
