Hello Tim,
We have a HDS 9960 for both mainframe and Open systems usage.
To use Linux/390 your 9900 will need to be configured with ESCON or FICON
adapters and some of your existing disks formatted for mainframe use, or if
you have none that can be freed up, acquire additional disk and have it
formatted for the mainframe (3390 ECKD format).

Please respond
to Linux on 390
Port
Hello,
We are planning to migrate some Sun server to a set of Linux/390 images
running under z/VM. But I have some unanswered questions about the HDS
9910 SAN box we are using. (not my specialty, so bare with me)
For the moment the HDS SAN is partitioned/formatted using the "Open E"
method. Apparently this is the required method for connecting to open
systems (UNIX, Windows,...)
But for s/390 the system needs a other method. Is this also true for
Linux/390 ? Probably yes because it uses a driver that talks to native
s/390 disk formats.
If we need to repartition, does this require we completly reformat our
SAN, or can this be done with keeping our current data (and without
backup) ?
And maybe anybody here has some other ideas, tips we need to look at ?
Thanks for your help,
Tim
