with the zFCP driver it looks like any other SCSI disk. If you have the
right support in the kernel, you can probably even access the sun
partitions on those disks without even re-formatting or shuffling the data
around. I *think* Linux on 390 supports sun disklabels still, it just
hasn't been useful till now...

support to talk directly to the SAN to non-ECKD type disks.

We have a HDS 9960 for both mainframe and Open systems usage.
To use Linux/390 your 9900 will need to be configured with ESCON or FICON
adapters and some of your existing disks formatted for mainframe use, or if
you have none that can be freed up, acquire additional disk and have it
formatted for the mainframe (3390 ECKD format).
