I work for Phil, and actually did the Samba setup.

We're doing authentication for Samba users via existing domains/clusters. Right now,
since production is confined to a single Samba instance, both sets of users have local
/etc/passwd entries for
file/directory ownership. We're getting ready to move those to an LDAP directory
(currently in test) and use that for the larger rollout we are planning. We're just
waiting to resolve some
administrative issues first.

The version of Samba (2.2.0a) distributed with SuSE has problems, but it seems to be
the only version for which binary RPM's publicly exist. We're running 2.2.5 in
production, and are testing 2.2.6.
Both appear to be stable except for two issues:

1) A problem with opening Attachmate Extra profiles that seems to be related to
oplocks. Attachmate is looking into this, and I've opened a bug report with the Samba
team.

2) Roaming profile problems that seem to be associated with a particular build/level
of Windows 2000. This has been discussed before, and there are entries in the Samba
bug database that seem to
relate.

Hope this helps.
