How many Novell servers are you currently running?

4 X Intel is a four CPU x86 machine?

Samba is robust and scalable. But the question is, if your current
permission concept/ model is portable.

It depends on the behaviour of your users and the total usage of your
G5, it's capacity and the used storage.

Also it's important to know, how many S/390 CPUs are available for Linux?

In my opinion it's possible.

For better permission handling in Samba I suggest to use the upcoming
SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 8 powerded by UnitedLinux 1. We have
introduced a enhanced mapping of the MS Windows ACLs to Linux file
system ACLs. ACLs on SuSE Linux ... are available for reiserfs, ext2,
and ext3.
