Rod,

Make sure you have security = user (or server or domain) and not share.
Make sure you have encrypted passwords turned on.

Bump your logging level up, and see what, if anything shows up in the smbd
logs, either for the smbd task, or your Windows client.

log level = 2 (or 3 or 4)
log file = /var/log/samba/samba.%m  (or whatever is appropriate for your
system)

If your Windows userid is defined to the Linux/390 system, make sure you've
done "smbpasswd -a userid" and set the password to be the same as your
Windows system.

I made the change, and recycled the 2 smb tasks, but the windows client is
still giving me an error message:

\\Ss390 is not accessable.  The network path was not found.
