I believe that starting with SLES8, SuSE finally implemented a real chkconfig command. Give that one a try.

The rpm -ql command showed me that ucdsnmp for example hit these files in /etc etc/init.d/snmpd etc/logrotate.d/ucdsnmp etc/ucdsnmpd.conf (which I'd already found and updated).
