Whether they are useful depends on what you want to know. I'm sure comparisons would give rise to never-ending debate, but if you want to know how L/390 on a zBox shapes up as a file-server, then you need to find someone with comparable workloads. A useful measure might be megabytes/sec delivered at peak and at sustained rates. Comparisons with Bonnie and the like might give you some feel for this, but comparing CPU performance is is pretty useless. OTOH if you want to do graphics rendering, comparing CPU performance would be highly relevant (and would quickly convince you the zBox isn't the Right Box). But then, the kind of CPU work you'd want to compare is that typical of your projected workload. -- Cheers John.
