Yep, I've run into it.

There is only certain types of FTP servers for Windows that Suse8
likes. I think it is in the README file. Download the one they suggest
and it should work fine.

However, you can use SMB to server the CD with Windows (WIN/98 or
better if using SUSE 8).

Then then answers to the install questions become:

2 - samba
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx - ip address of the windows box
xxxxx - directory you told Windows to share the CD as
yes
enter
enter
enter
yes
2 - VCN give it a password
4 - Start installation
1 - Start installation
2 - Network
4 - SMB
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx - the ip address again
xxxxx - the directory again
2 - no
xxx - windows user name
yyyy - windows password
enter - no workgroup

And you're off...finally.

I am trying to install SUSE SLES 8 via FTP and get to the point in the
boot
loader script that asks for type of install NFS, SAMBA, FTP or ABORT,
I
enter 3 for FTP it then asks for my FTP server address and directory,
ID and
PASSWORD, I enter each of these and the script fails at this point
with
message FTP SERVER OR DIRECTORY NOT ACCESSIBLE Please check parameters.
From
this point I can SSH into this new linux guest and I also from my
putty
client I can FTP out to the FTP server and directory that fails from
the
script. I do not see what I am missing. Has anyone run into this with
the
SUSE 8 install?
