You can do it either way. As always, whether that's best depends. If at
some time a zBox falls into my price range, that's what I'd do. But by
then, we'll probably be running a 3.x kernel;-)

I myself run it under Hercules which virtually provides real hardware.

The big advantage of VM comes when you want more Linux boxes than you
can have with LPARs.
