Just completed a z990 ITSO course and came across 2 note worthy new
features you people may be interested in.
Sorry if this has already been mentioned in this forum. There are 2 new HMC
functions that are introduced with the z990 but apply to z800, z900 and
G5/G6 HMC's with patches applied.

Integrated ASCII Console support for Linux Logical Partition
Can be used from one HMC at a time - support for switching
Uses SCLP interface to communicate to the operating system
ASCII-to-ASCII
i.e..VT220 via /dev/ttyS1 logical device in Linux for zSeries
Requires planned code drop to open source Hardware support already on G5/G6
with driver 26
z800/z900 with driver 3G

Integrated 3270 Console support for z/VM Logical Partition
Support planned in z/VM 4.4 ? IPLs to SYSG
Uses SCLP interface to communicate with z/VM operating system
Highly customizable keyboard mapping
Can be used from one HMC at a time - support for switching
Supports one console session per z/VM Logical Partition
Hardware support enabled ... requires z/VM 4.4 and later on:
z990 with GA level HMC
G5/G6 with driver 26
z800/z900 with driver 3G
Removes need for an external 2074 Console Support Controller for z/VM
console users
z990 HMC Integrated 3270 Console
