All that UK/EU law requires is that the data is properly controlled,
no-where does that require PGP. Provided the mechanism is secure any will
do, so if they are saying that PGP is required by law they are trying to
pull the wool over your eyes and you should call their bluff.

                    Linux on 390 Port

We got pulled into having to use PGP because of laws governing
British Airways transmission of data (I think it was a British/UK/EU law or
something to that effect). Because we need them more then they need us
we're
pretty much at a disadvantage... If we had to use PGP encryption for all
our other FTP vendor data we'd be able to justify the additional enterprise
PGP costs. But anyway, this is good info.... Thanks

One of our MVS people recently installed a port of OpenSSH into the USS
portion of our OS/390 v2.10 system. Using an ssh key pair that was
generated under my Linux/390 system, we have been able to use SCP to pull
data from Linux into USS and then use the MV command to move it into a real
MVS dataset. The SSH process handles the authorization and encrypted data
transfer (even though we don't need the encryption between our MVS and
Linux/390 systems running under zVM on the same box). We will be using SCP
to pull files from another Agency and need the encryption for that dat
transfer.

Do you need to transfer the files securely or to encrypt the files for
any/every use?
