Moloko, I have the same problem - except the dasd I'm defining is part of the initial install. If you view /proc/chandev does this tell you anything like 'no_path' or 'device_gone' ? If so, I found an archive of a Mark Post reply: "I'll echo here what I said to Greg Smith in the Linux-390 mailing list: Make sure that the device is being detected during IPL. You should see something like this: Detected device 2928 on subchannel 0000 -PIM =80,PAM =80,POM =FF but with f830, etc. Also, I'll tell you what I tell everyone... Since the scripts hide any error messages that come back from the "insmod -f" command, try issuing it yourself manually. In your case that would be: insmod -f lcs-2.4.7-s390-2.o devno_portno_pairs=0xf830,2 Substitute your values for the module name and device number...."
I have not worked though this problem yet but maybe we have the same issue? regards, Jim Knox Baycare Health Systems 813.243.7082 > I am trying to add dasd volumes on SuSe Interprice Server 8, the > following is the status of theof my volumes, when I try to do > > fdasd /dev/dasdk i get the following Error > > lnx1:/boot/zipl # fdasd /dev/dasdk > > fdasd error: open error > Could not open device '/dev/dasdk' in read-only mode! > > When trying dasdfmt I get the following > > lnx1:/boot/zipl # dasdfmt -b 4096 -f /dev/dasdk > dasdfmt: Unable to open device /dev/dasdk: No such device > > 7240(none) at ( 94: 40) is dasdk : unknown > 7241(none) at ( 94: 44) is dasdl : unknown > 7242(none) at ( 94: 48) is dasdm : unknown > 7243(none) at ( 94: 52) is dasdn : unknown > 7244(none) at ( 94: 56) is dasdo : unknown > 7245(none) at ( 94: 60) is dasdp : unknown > 7246(none) at ( 94: 64) is dasdq : unknown > > Please assist > > Moloko Monyepao > OS390 System Programmer > arivia.kom > Tel : +27 11 800 3372 > > > NOTICE: Please note that this eMail, and the contents thereof, is > subject to the standard arivia.kom email disclaimer which may be found > at: http://www.arivia.co.za/disclaimer.htm.
