Ignoring BogoMIPS arguments for the time being and returning to what I think
Jim was really asking: "Our original recommendations as to what type of
workloads were good matches for the 390 architecture were based on the G5/G6
boxes, now that we have the z990 with its enhanced instruction pipelining,
improved floating point performance, and faster cycle speed, do we need to
revisit our assumptions about what workloads are now good candidates?" I
don't have a z990 (drats) so can't answer this question. Actuarial
calculations are probably still not good choices for zSeries but what of the
others we initially discarded?
