The message about missing VM support is not the problem. As Mark Pace suggested, check your virtual memory size for the guest. I would qualify his comment that segfaults are "usually" a result of too little virtual storage as pertaining to nearly-brain-dead installers, perhaps, but not a full-blown running system. Segmentation faults are nearly equivalent to some/all of the various S0C4 abends. It's just that in your case, the installer may have requested more storage, didn't get it, didn't figure that out, and tried to use it anyway.
Mark Post -----Original Message----- From: Linux on 390 Port [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Ken Vance Sent: Thursday, January 22, 2004 12:40 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: SLES8 install Hi, We have the evaluation copy of SuSE LINUX Enterprise Server 8. We went through the install process and it did not show any ertror messages. On the screen were it is loading the software it shows the percentage of data read from the CD. (We are using NFS to mount the CD) The screen flashed a lot, but the percentage stays at 0%. It then goes to a screen that tells you to reboot. When we IPL, it does not start. It appears that the boot area has not been loaded. When I look at the 3270 console logs, I noticed one error about missing VM support. This did not appear on SuSE 7 installs. Did anyone else have problems on the initial install? Are there any service packs? We just received the CDs just before Christmas.
