The NASA spokeswoman last night said that the solution was to "delete a lot of old files", so it sounds more like any auxiliary disc got full, not a RAM problem.

Back in the '60's these were called x37 abends.

She also said they had some kind of excecution trace enabled now so they can track down the bad code.

I don't think we'll ever know what actually happened.
