Alan,

Unless Larry is doing something silly or low-level in his code, it should
just compile, don't you think? He can either get an LCDS instance to do the
work, or I can create an account for him on one of mine. If you could ask
him to contact me, I would appreciate it. He would probably respond better
if the original contact came through you.

I understand the desire to have patches come from someone more familiar with
the platform. I'm just concerned about the fact that I, along with a lot of
other people on this list, are definitely _not_ C developers, and have no
real experience hacking on the kernel. (Not to mention the time
constraints. Sigh.) I don't think EDS would be willing to pay my salary
just to keep the Linux/390 bits of the kernel in line, even if I really
wanted to do that full time. Sounds like a job that needs further
delegation. :)

I would be that Larry will roll a 390 client if someone can give him the
right bits (or explain hercules 8)). The big difference really is that
IBM release tested patches to recent releases, and don't always
integrate them or track current kernels (and Im sure there is good
business sense in bits of that decision).

Delegation works better. You know S/390 better for example.

I can't speak for Marcelo but I certainly preferred having non x86 stuff
come from someone who had merged it with the latest code, run it and
thinks it works, than to do it myself.
