Hi,
A couple of things to keep in mind when you use a VSWITCH.
(1) Whenever possible, couple your Linux guests directly to the VSWITCH so
the IP Addresses are all registered on the VSWITCH LAN segment. If the
VSWITCH knows all of the IP Addresses in use you can run in the default
(NONROUTER) mode on the OSA card.
(2) If you formerly used the VM TCP/IP stack as your router for a
collection of Linux guests on a Guest LAN you might have used the VM stack
IP address as your gateway to the rest of the network. With the VSWITCH
your Linux guests should be able to send IP frames directly to the router
outside the OSA Express. Your IP configuration should look more like this
(make sure you use a fixed font to view this):
TCPIP LINUX2 LINUX3
| | |
|10.1.1.1 |10.1.1.2 | 10.1.1.3
| | |
============================ (VSWITCH TEST)
| OSA RDEV 4400 |
---------------
| LAN port (hardware)
|
| 10.1.1.254
--------
| ROUTER | (hardware)
--------
|
(the rest of the world)
If your Linux guests still have GATEWAY=10.1.1.1 you will have connectivity
but frames intended for the outside world are making an unnecessary trip
through the TCPIP stack to reach 10.1.1.254. GATEWAY=10.1.1.254 would be
more appropriate here.
Regards,
Dennis
