Hello Kevin,
I have done a lot of tests with Apache and IBMHttpServer with WAS 4.0.4
and WAS 5.0.2 on SLES7 and SLES8. Apache and WAS work correctly if you
don't need SSL functions.
The main difference is that Apache uses OpenSSL, IBMHttpServer uses Gsk5
like WAS. I recommend the use of IBMHttpServer, in case of problem
between this two softs you will have only one contact to solve the
trouble.
I hope this can help you.

Objet: HTTP Engine for Linux zSeries
We have started down the Linux zSeries road. We currently have SUSE
Linux
running on an LPAR on our IBM 9672-RB6.
Our first customer for the Linux zSeries is going to be using WebSphere
Application Server for Linux zSeries.
As I was researching the installation of WebSphere App Server V5.1, I
found that you must tell it which HTTP Engine you are running; Apache or
IBM.
This has sparked a lively discussion about which direction we should go.
IBM is more than willing to recommend the IBM HTTP engine.
I am interested in hearing from those of you that installed WebSphere
Application Server to see which road you recommend any why.
