There may be something newer by the time 5.1 appears.  8 should
certainly run.

It'll run native or under VM, and comes in both 64- and 31-bit flavors.
Basically, unless you need more than 2GB addressible virtual storage,
there's no real benefit to going 64-bit, and there aren't a lot of
certified 64-bit apps yet.
