I have used it to submit RJE, parse return data and convert to XML.
But I dont have the time to create a nice looking FTP web client. It is
the GUI aspects that demand some time. I am looking at web-ftp.
For better user-interface, I am afraid I have to go with some 'closed'
source s/w like SmartFTP.
More later.... :-)

I am uncertain why a GUI is required; I would believe that an easily
programmed tool would be far more flexible since the work need not
require human intervention.
Have you considered tying it together w/ a Python-based front end?
Or even tcl/TK?
I am uncertain regarding the value of a GUI.
(shrugs)
BTW, if you are FTPing from Windows into z/OS... why not send the
transactions as RJE'd jobs... send a deck w/ the file and "punch"
files being downloaded...
(Gawd I am *such* a Luddite!)
