Hi,
I faced this problem just 1 week back.
The problem here is that Yast modules are not getting loaded into the main memory.
What is the mode of installation that you are selecting here ? Is it FTP or NSF or any other thing ?
Here SuSE 8.0 loads the Yast modules only after validating the installation mode you have chosen.
It used to give " FTP directory not accessable ", when i select FTP as installation mode.
Here SuSE 1. Pings the ftp host ip address 2. Does a 'CD' into the directory path given 3. Tries to ftp the file 'content' present in CD1 directory.
I have placed this 'content' file in binary format at the CD1 directory on ftp host.
It's failing in step3, since the ftp mode binary is not matching as it is expecting the ftp to be in ascii/text mode.
I replaced the binary 'content' file with text 'conent' file and the 'FTP directory not accessable' problem got solved.
And it loaded all the required Yast modules.
yast, YaST, yast2, YaST2 ........all these combinations work fine as Vic Cross mentioned.
Just check the linuxrc.sh in the root directory, it will tell what is happening when you select the installation mode option.
Regards,
Srinivas.

I booted the first time SLES-8 in an lpar from CD1.
I can sign on as root via telnet ssh, however
I do not seem to be able to run YaST.
When I enter 'yast' command I'm getting:
-bash: yast: command not found
I've looked in the various install system directories
but it is not obvious where the yast modules are located.
What PATH the root user needs to run YaST ?
Or am I missing something else altogether ?
Thanks ... Janek
