Why? Are the engineers going to use CMS in addition to Linux? Even then, why have multiples? Or is this one of the "political" considerations what have nothing to do with reality? > > Shared DASD. Why? Shared DASD in z/VM and Linux on the zServer does _NOT_ work like z/OS shared DASD. All that sharing the DASD will do is allow you to IPL a Linux instance on a separate z/VM. And I still don't see why multiple VMs. You cannot easily share Linux DASD between separate Linux instances (whether on the same or different z/VM systems). You can share Read-Only, but maintaining this READ-ONLY volume is a real bother. And by READ-ONLY, I mean READ-ONLY. Nobody can have write access to the volume! Linux just does _NOT_ support shared DASD like z/OS will. > > What are the implications of using same VOLID's for 440RES > W01 W02 etc. > Does zVM detect duplicate VOLSERs (like z/OS) during IPL? Yes, but no. Yes it detects duplicate VOLSERs. But z/OS asks you which one to dismount. z/VM keeps the first one it sees and ignores all the rest. And does not inform the operator. > > I'd prefer to change these VOL ID's and make them > unique for each zVM system...but the z/VM Summary for Installation > says I can't do that during the install. > > How hard is it to do this after the install...and what are > the todo's...
