I think the point is that for every 390 customer that has SCSI-attached
3590 drives, there are at least 2 dozen who have spent more than $500K
on 3480/3490 silo technology that can't use the IBM-supported backup
tool without buying and installing z/OS and z/OS TSM (which pretty close
to triples the price of implementation) or replacing their drives (which
z/OS and the other 390 operating systems can't directly use, forcing
them to partition their silos and making no end of hassle for
operations).
