Scott,

>From what I was told on IBM-MAIN, the zAAP is not a "Java coprocessor"
with a different instruction set. I was told that it was another CP
which runs "normal" zArch instructions, but like an IFL, will not run
regular z/OS or "legacy" code. Also, to use it requires z/OS 1.6 because
that is where the code is which understands what a zAAP is and how to
dispatch work onto it. There was a brief discussion about the possiblity
of somebody figuring out how to mark COBOL code as "java" and so get it
to run on the zAAP. I can think of ways to stop this. And if I can think
of them, you can be sure that IBM can <grin>. IIRC, it will also require
a special JVM implementation, different from the current z/OS JVM.

IOW - in a Linux environment, just get another IFL
