Found it - had to update /etc/sysconfig/language and set RC_LANG to "en_US" and ROOT_USES_LANG to "yes" and run /sbin/SuSEconfig . Now the websphere app is happy. The command "locale" did list "POSIX" as the RC_LANG and now lists en_US.

Well, SuSE 9.1 on Intel now defaults to UTF-8, so the 390 version probably isn't too far behind. Marcy, check to see if you have the gcc_locales and system locales packages loaded (don't have access right now to a system to check exact name). One of the locales should be UTF-8 for SLES8 (I think it's called "unicode-8", but don't quote me.) Once that's loaded, you should be able to use YaST to set the system default to unicode-8, and their problem should go away. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For LINUX-390 subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: INFO LINUX-390 or visit http://www.marist.edu/htbin/wlvindex?LINUX-390 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For LINUX-390 subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: INFO LINUX-390 or visit http://www.marist.edu/htbin/wlvindex?LINUX-390
