I'm going to guess you have way too much memory specified in the Linux
guest's directory entry--maybe 1.5G.  Reduce it to 256MB.  It sounds
like you're having the problem that whenever the Linux guest wants to
run, VM has to page a bunch of it in, and then something it needs gets
paged out before it can finish.  If you drastically reduce its memory
allocation, things will move much better.

How much memory do you currently have defined to the guest, and how much
real memory is available on the system?
