Okay, I should have added "current" to my list. TSM on VM isn't, and Tivoli has made
it clear that it never will be. I'm not interested in a product if the product's
vendor isn't interested in it.

Actually, Tivoli makes a product that we use for RedHat Linux and others on
z/VM. It is called Tivoli Storage Manager. The server runs on VM. The
server piece is frozen at some outdated release.
We have enough dasd to back up all our servers to it overnight. During the
day this all gets munged onto collocated tapes. Then we are ready for the
next night's backups. The combination of a Tivoli Storage Manager Server on
VM with clients on captive (dare I say virtual?!) Linuxes is a natural.
ARE YOU LISTENING TIVOLI?! ...no, of course not, :-)
It has worked well for us.
My company denies any knowledge of anything I say,
