HiperSockets (real and virtual) is a synchronous interface.  When the
sending LPAR or virtual machine data buffer is marked "empty", the
receiving LPAR or virtual machine has a buffer marked "full".  This
results in lower latency than OSA (again, real or virtual).

>From a virtual point of view, HiperSockets has a slightly shorter path
length through CP.  (Whether you can measure the difference depends
entirely on the workload.)
