As per Ihno, plus from hard experience if running under zVM the latest maint is important - RSU 0403. Same with SLES8 kernel (new QDIO drivers helped). I am not saying exactly what fixes what, just that I spent a long time, and the latest maint (plus fake_ll) did the trick.
