I tried that. Or at least I tried to do an FTP session from the linux
guest.....and it said unknown command. So from the vm guest that is
defined, I cannot invoke ftp services....

I just logged onto the ID that was created for me to use, and I CAN invoke
ftp there.

So that said, once I have swapgen in a place where I can ftp to from VM,
how do I then copy the exec to the right location for the guest in
question?

I appear to have access to all of the defined disk (q dasd shows all of
them).

James,

All you should have to do is an ASCII FTP transfer of the file to the 191
disk of your guest, then edit PROFILE EXEC to add this:
"SWAPGEN 300 sizeyouwant"

The Vdisk HOWTO was written before Sine Nomine generously contributed
SWAPGEN to the community, so don't use that as a guide for what you're
trying to do. (I should probably make a note of that on the HOWTO itself.)

Subject: Swapgen - setting up/installing

Our VM sysprog is out sick, and has been like down for 2 days now. Don't
think he'll be back this week.

I don't know enough about VM directly, myself, to install swapgen and make
it work.

I can find and edit profile exec, but i do not know how to 1) Put swapgen
in the user directory 2) I do not know how to code the call for swapgen, so
that it uses the device 300 as the target of operation.

Our VM sysprog put the VDSK swap space at virtual device 300.

I had been looking at the HOWTO vdiskswp.html but this is for a 2.2.16
system, as there is no /sbin/init.d/boot in SLES8.

Anyway, I thought I could puzzle it out, but it seems to be eluding me.
