Subject: Re: z/VM IPL questions - Shutdown reipl
Ranga,

inactive after the shutdown.
I've seen this too and it is annoying.
Do you see a DISABLED WAIT error message in the Hardware Messages? If you
drill down into the Details, do you see the last 4 digits of the PSW are
"1010"? This is the wait state for "I can't find a console". I may be
wrong on some of these assumptions but I believe the key is to leave the
Integrated 3270 console up on the HMC. Then z/VM will shutdown AND reipl
cleanly without intervention in about 2-3 minutes. It would be nice if you
could "SHUTDOWN REIPL" VM without a console being necessary.
Yes, it is a little annoying. Other sysprogs complain that I am leaving
the HMC logged on. Yes, I could not logoff without also closing the 3270
integrated console!
