Thank you. Removing the A corrected my problem. I do not know if it is
necessary or not. We have no users logged on to z/VM. We just installed it
and are trying to become somewhat familiar with it.

It's not a problem having VSWCTRL1 as class A if it's required. It's
just that you want to ensure that the system operator is logged on 1st
otherwise the 1st class A machine gets designated as the operator and
this may not be what you want. So if the manual says class A then leave
it. Just find out why OPERATOR isn't logged on or why it got logged off.

I edit user direct by hand and then run directxa user. I have the
following:
USER VSWCTRL1 VSWCTRL1 32M 128M ABCG
Are you saying I should have the following:
USER VSWCTRL1 VSWCTRL1 32M 128M BCG
The manual specifically shows an A, is the manual incorrect or am I
still
confused? Thanks.

What do you use to manage your users: Dirmaint, VM:Secure or by hand? In
the VM directory (USER DIRECT) the definition for the virtual machine
the
USER statement usually has the classes for that user. (There is also the
CLASS statement but that's not used as much in my experience.) You need
to
remove the "A" from the string of classes specified for that user. How
you
do this depends on my 1st question.
