The partition slots are fixed/reserved, so every device occupies four minor nodes regardless of the actual number. My script took that into account, and created the partition nodes too. I think the other script also did.
What I found out trying to do this manually was that it was really easy to drop a node number somewhere and end up out of sync. By going against /proc/dasd/devices, I got two benefits: The nodes were guaranteed to match reality, and I only got nodes for the devices that actually existed, preventing /dev from getting too cluttered. I did have to remember to run the script when I updated zipl.conf though. > -----Original Message----- > From: Linux on 390 Port [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of > Mark Post > Sent: Friday, December 17, 2004 2:25 PM > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Subject: Re: [LINUX-390] LVM, SuSE, going over 26 volumes - ARRGH > > > Except /proc/dasd/devices only includes the device nodes, not the > partitions.
