I have looked over both keepalived and heartbeat and I think heartbeat is
the better fit. I see all the discussion of STONITH and I am curious if I
should include the ibm snIPL for STONITH. What I really want to accomplish
is to have a customer facing server available. The latest design is that I
will be running IHS servers with the WAS plug-in for load-sharing to
back-end WAS 5.1 enterprise servers. I'm thinking heartbeat between two IHS
servers should provide a hot standby if the primary fails. I'm not sure I
need to automatically stop and restart the failed primary. Am I off base
here? Are there other issues I am missing?

LVS is known to work well on L390 for load balancing and workload
distribution; Linux-HA requires some networking function that isn't
generally available there yet (the L2 support will allow this to work
properly). Mosix and Beowulf are more distributed computing models
than HA solutions; probably overkill for what you want to do.

You may also want to look at OpenSSI (www.openssi.org). I haven't
gotten it completely working on 390 yet, but slow progress is being
made. It's actually much more appealing than just workload
distribution -- watching processes migrate between systems is *really*
cool.
