Wasn't the 1492 due to the way the LCS3172 driver on P/390 and family
encapsulated the guest IP traffic through the OS/2 network stack
because someone needed those 8 bytes for himself?
That limitation affects any operating system in such a box, including
z/OS, z/VM and Linux for S/390.
