I'd say that if it's documented to work with SMB, then it really ought
to work *w/o* having to do a lot of hokey workarounds. For the kind of
money you're paying for a SLES license, every single documented function
-- particularly in the install program --  should "just work" without
excuses.

I agree that your method gets the job done, but that a major documented
feature DOESN'T work is something that I'd ask the Novell folks to look
into more closely. Both SLES8 SP3 and SLES 9 have had severe packaging
or installation process problems (this having to do a bunch of manual
steps at the end that are buried in the installation notes is pretty
lame -- if you can leave a script to do it, then you can *run* the
script automagically without the user having to remember to do it).

C'mon, Novell folks. This is important fit and finish stuff -- it
affects how seriously enterprises take Linux. If you need help with the
testing, ask us. It's a lot cheaper to get it right the first time than
to have to fix it later.
