"Mainframe" is a red herring, Tom. Substitute the phrase "My long-established software with a 40-year history of refinement". Are you not getting help when you call the problem in? (I hope people are not treating Linux like a toaster and putting up with burnt toast. If the folks who write the installation tools don't get service calls the problems will never get fixed!)
