"Mainframe" is a red herring, Tom.  Substitute the phrase "My
long-established software with a 40-year history of refinement".

Are you not getting help when you call the problem in?  (I hope people are
not treating Linux like a toaster and putting up with burnt toast.  If the
folks who write the installation tools don't get service calls the
problems will never get fixed!)
