I agree..

We are at that tuning point... Leaving VSE/ESA cobol,cics,db2,vsam..
FOR...Windows and SQL Server..

The programmers want to do the .Net thing... They tell me that .Net
works better with SQL than with
MySql...
Do the .Net thing but leave the database on the mainframe..MySql or
DB2... No.. They want all Microsoft
Products...can't win the fight.. Still trying though...

We are not big enough for Websphere.. Too complicated for our 9
programmers...too much cobol for many years..
Which is not a bad thing.. Hey cobol tried and true....

I tell the Microsoft network staff that I got my MSBS certification..
And it only took about 10 mins...
Microsoft Bull S... Certification... They think I am crazy.....
Can't wait until we do the disaster recovery....Mainframe eazy... Many
ms servers a nightmare...

Thanks for listening to me ramble...

When comparing zSeries Linux (assuming z/VM) to other platforms, here
are some 10,000ft views.

1) In addition to favorable IFL pricing, theres reduced software charges
when licenses are based on number of CPUs, i.e. several test/production
systems can share one IFL.
2) No cables or physical interfaces required to network your server farm
together. Cables cause 95% of network problems.
3) Simpler disaster recovery specs, planning and exercise.
4) It really is like in that commercial where "someone stole all the
servers".
