Well, you're running on the 64-bit kernel, it appears.
Now I'm not sure that the architecture should default to s390x until we have a complete 64-bit port of Debian. If you don't think it should either, please use reportbug to file a bug with the Debian team and we can try to get the default changed before Sarge release. I know Marci Beach is also getting s390x, and I have not yet had time to file the bug and chase it down. Putting install/priority=medium in your parmfile card would probably let you answer the question rather than taking defaults.
I think you could also just install the 2.4.27-2-s390 kernel and headers manually with apt-get install if you wanted to. Then cpint would work.
