I hate to follow-up to my own email, but just in case anybody else runs into this, I got around it by not defining my dasd in the parmfile and waiting until it prompted for the addresses while booting. That works.
Now, I have to wait for the rest of the day while I download all the other software so I can begin the install. Slackware has such a great startup with all the network info in the parmfile I can't believe they still require downloading all the software before you can start installing the base system. The only choices are dasd, NFS, Windows/Samba share, and a mounted directory.
