Sorry if I confused things. :-) What you can run on your z890 and what IBM will provide software support for are two very different things: - WebSphere, DB2, Tivoli, Lotus, and Rational will not provide support of their middleware/applications on FC. They require "certified" operating environments (read: they tested it). - On the other hand, FC is an operating system like any other and to the extent that it exposes defects in the zSeries-specific parts of the kernel or the zSeries device drivers, the hardware, or z/VM, we will work to fix the problem (within the bounds of the relevant service agreements). Neither is a statement about whether FC is a Good Thing or not. If you have the skills, time, and other resources to help Red Hat improve their next version of RHEL, then I encourage you to do so. Everyone benefits. > Free _vs._ Stability: that's what managers belive software dealers and > plan to use nt not linux... I respectfully disagree. There are plenty of customers who do not wish to participate in "early adopter" programs, and it isn't because they are anti-Linux. The choice we were discussing was not "Linux vs. Not Linux", but "FC vs. RHEL". Tim asked why FC would be considered unusual in the mainframe, and I tried to answer that.
